I don’t know if its my recent cravings for chocoloate,
or my shortage of champagne consumption,
but I am unexpectedly looking forward to Valentine’s Day this year.
For years I have given V-Day two thumbs down finding it to be the
tacky and pointless patron holiday of ugly stuffed animals and sub-par
chocolate.
Last year Nick and I swore we weren’t going to “celebrate,” but we ended up doing a night out for dinner anyway. And as we sat there laughing at the cheap heart-shaped decor and the “tower of love” dessert table something inside me stopped hating Valentine’s Day.
Plus living with Nick changed things. Though we do little things here and there to show our love, its not easy to pull off surprises or be spontaneous with witty acts of love when you are living together. You sometimes take dinners out for granted, and its nice to have a holiday to make you stop and remember that this cute guy across from the table who is picking up the check not only puts up with you, but actually likes you in spite of the crazy bullshit you put him through on a daily basis - and that is something to celebrate.
I decided to stop fighting how much I hated the crappy goodies that
run rampant this time of year, and use it as a great excuse to indulge in a mid-week dinner out, bake some yummy desserts say yes to ordering dessert, and to try to be the loving girlfriend that I should be more often.
Oh and let’s not forget its an excuse to have as much champagne, and
chocolate as my little heart desires.
I’m not going to argue with any holiday that allows encourages that.
